Friday, March 13th, 2009In the old days of building software and web development, you would discover, document, design and build an entire set of features before letting a user actually use the software. This is the Waterfall model and was supposed to be the most effective way to develop software. Experience showed that this is the wrong approach and that this method creates a false sense of control. It gives the impression that it reduced risk, since the idea is that if you know all the requirements up front, you can accurately estimate the time and effort needed to deliver the software. The Waterfall method assumes that you can’t start until you know everything you will need to do, and this in great detail.
